Davina James-Hanman - GLDVP Director
This
year, the GLDVP celebrated its sixth birthday with an event in London’s
Living Room, complete with balloons and cake for our 200 guests!
Achievements in 2003
BBC Hitting Home campaign
- We acted as advisers on the campaign
- Appeared on Panorama
- Provided information for the website developed to support the campaign
Criminal Justice System
This has involved a number of projects including:
- Developing and providing police training, nationally and locally
- Advising the Metropolitan Police Service on their strategy and monitoring
- Developing a policy for the Probation Service and participating
in the joint review on domestic violence by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate
of Constabulary (HMIC) / Her Majesty’s Crown Prosecution Service
Inspectorate (HMCPSI).
Stella Project
Following the successful conference last year, we:
- Raised funds to further develop this work on domestic violence
and substance misuse
- Produced a toolkit to address domestic violence and substance misuse.
Domestic violence and mental health
In March we held a seminar on this issue followed by a round table
event in June. From this, a report has been produced with draft minimum
standards of policy and practice that will be consulted before final
publication.
What we hope to achieve in the coming year
- A comprehensive domestic violence website
- Recruitment of a further two members of staff
- Development of an accredited domestic violence training scheme
- Development of advocacy services across London.
