Partnerships
"No single organisation can hope to reduce the incidence of crime. Local organisations need to work together to develop comprehensive solutions to improve the community's quality of life" - (Audit Commission)
Why work in partnership?
The 1998 Crime and Disorder Act put 'partnership working' at the heart of crime reduction. Subsequent legislation such as the Police Reform Act 2002 and the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 has further strengthened the case and widened the list of agencies required to work in partnership.
All of this legislation recognises the role of the voluntary sector in working with statutory providers to find solutions to crime.
Furthermore, many funders are now looking for evidence of partnership working in their applications.
The benefits of partnership working are many and varied, and include:
- Sharing knowledge and expertise
- Avoiding duplication of work and waste of resources
- Referrals between partner agencies
- Increasing the voluntary sectors' voice i.e. strength through unity
- Increased impact
