We are currently recruiting volunteers for the following projects:

ALPS: Volunteer Family Mentors

London Action Trust have secured money to deliver a 3 year family learning project for disadvantaged families. The project will run across London with the aim of increasing opportunities for learning through supporting beneficiaries to design, develop and maintain an allotment. This will include growing produce for consumption in the family home and improving the dietary habits and awareness of beneficiaries. The volunteer allotment mentor’s role will be to support beneficiaries to maintain their allotment and increase their horticultural knowledge.

We would ideally like to recruit volunteer allotment mentors from amongst adults who maintain their own allotments or with a keen interest in gardening.
No previous experience of working with this beneficiary group is required.
We have allotments in Sutton, Catford, Barnet and Enfield.

Person Specification:

We are looking to recruit volunteers who:

• Have an interest in or previous experience of gardening and/or maintaining an allotment
• Can be available at times to suit beneficiaries and their child which could include after school and weekends. (Usually 2 hours per week)
• Are open minded in their approach to working with people who have experienced the criminal justice system
• Can exhibit patience with beneficiaries
• Will facilitate rather than lead
• Are willing to complete an enhanced CRB check due to working with children under 16
• Are able to keep brief records on their contact
• Understand and respect confidentiality
• Observe relevant health and safety issues

We will provide induction, training and supervision for you in your role and will cover your travel expenses.

Waltham Forest Gangs Intervention Project: Volunteer Mentors

London Action Trust are currently recruiting peer and adults mentors to support young people in the Borough of Waltham Forest for up to 12 months.

As a volunteer mentor you will provide support around personal, social and educational needs as identified by the young person and you, the mentor.

Following successful completion of 2 days intensive training mentors will be awarded with an Open College Network qualification in Peer Mentoring.

Training for mentors will be held over two days in the Waltham Forest Area.
